U.S. Gov. Should Allocate 2% of Their Annual Cancer Budget Directly to Current Patients
Financial assistance for cancer patients is desperately needed – Whether during a battle with cancer or as a survivor of cancer, often times the financial toll is never recovered from. The current Federal fiscal budget for 2018 committed to cancer totaled $5.389 Billion, an increase of $174.6 million from the prior year’s period. These funds are given to the National Cancer Institute (NCI) to fund and support Research Opportunities to address these specific needs: Preventing Cancer, Understanding Cancer, Detecting and Diagnosing Cancer, Treating Cancer, Advancing Public Health in Cancer, and Reducing Cancer Disparities. These are all noble causes and greatly needed. The 2019 fiscal year annual Cancer Plan & Budget Proposal (https://www.cancer.gov/about-nci/budget/plan/2019-annual-plan-budget-proposal.pdf)
The Cancer Horizons Community Asks Simply
WHERE IS THE FUNDING FOR CURRENT CANCER PATIENTS?
With $5,389,000,000 allocated to finding a cure for cancer, better ways to diagnose and deliver cancer health care, we ask how about the 18-million citizens of the United States that currently have cancer. What can be done for them, what relief can be offered, what financial help and subsidies can be made available? In short how do we care for our own that are being evicted from their homes, unable to pay utility bills and keep heat and lights on, eating poorly because they can’t afford a healthy diet, can’t afford the gas to get to needed doctors’ appointments and treatments, unable to repair cars that need mechanical attention and the list goes on and on. Is there anyone advocating for these people on Capitol Hill?
Cancer Horizons Suggests that 2% of the Federal Budget Go Directly To Patients in Need
$107 MILLION ANNUALLY TO HELP CANCER PATIENTS DIRECTLY
We are hyper sensitive at Cancer Horizons to the financial needs of this community because of the hundreds of emails received each month from great people that never asked for cancer, never anticipated getting it, trying hard to get through it and dealing daily with the heartache and stress that comes from being wiped out financially. Here are just a few of dozens of emails received in the past week of great people struggling quietly:

Cancer Horizons has the largest directory on the net for financial help to cancer patients, free products and services, directory of support groups and cancer associations, unfortunately these associations are primarily funded through donations and would be a perfect distribution point of additional resources from the Federal Government that could directly impact a cancer patient and their family while they battle this deadly disease that respects no one and cares nothing about the devastation it leaves in its path.
