I was diagnosed with stage 3b (T4,N1c, M0) colorectal cancer on March 18, 2016 at the age of 36. I have endured more than 1,000 hours of chemotherapy and 30 rounds of radiation. I am currently waiting for my appointment with my oncologist to see what happens next. I am also currently having issues with my kidneys due to radiation causing scar tissue to block off my ureters. My left kidney is functioning at less that 23%. I have surgery tomorrow to have permanent stents placed. If the stents do not work I will have another surgery to have a nephrostopy placed.
My family and I have been financially devastated by my cancer diagnosis. I’m unable to return to work until released so we struggle to pay bills, keep food on the table and I sit more time than not without my prescription medications. I have also had to cancel appointments and surgeries because we simply couldn’t afford the gas to get there.
