Cancer Type – Breast
Bio – Her words, “The scar is God given as a sign for your life,” come as a result of her two year struggle with breast cancer.
Short Story – “It sounds weird to say, but it feels like a gift; anything that’s scary like this reminds you how precious life is.” Diagnosed with breast cancer in 1997, the “You’re So Vain” singer underwent a successful mastectomy and reconstructive surgery and is now cancer free. However, her cancer story is bigger than cancer. She felt as if cancer played a large role in her affiliations and career relationships. Simon felt as though she were shunned for having cancer, making 1997 and 1998 a very difficult time in her life.
Her battle inspired her song, ‘Scar’, which will resonate with any woman who has battled breast cancer.
Chorus
And the night is cold
As the coldest nights are
There’s a wise woman
She comes from an evening star
She says: Look for the signs
You won’t have to look far
Lead with your spirit and follow
Follow your scar…

Update
She remains cancer free today.
Did you know that Carly stuttered as a child? That is how she began writing and singing songs. When she sang, she didn’t stutter. It seems that is common for stutters when singing, they do not stutter.
In 2012, she did a benefit for cancer at Dreamland.
Thank you Carly, for the songs and for helping spread awareness of breast cancer.
