Cancer Type – Colon
Bio – Sharon Osbourne the queen mum of heavy metal’s family believes every day is a gift, and gives back to help others facing cancer.
Short Story – The heavy metal mom on MTV’s reality show, “The Osbournes”, host of “The Talk” on CBS, and former judge on “America’s Got Talent” has had her share of up’s and down’s. Splitting from heavy metal star, Ozzy Osbourne in 2013 during his relapse in drug addiction, her family life has always been tabloid headlines. Yet, the couple has worked through their stuff, and in fact, in an interview with Hello! Magazine, announced they renewed their vows in Las Vegas on Mother’s Day in 2017! Congrats!
Sharon’s life altering moment may have come when Sharon was 49 years old (2002). While Ozzy was on his Ozzfest tour, Sharon was diagnosed with colon cancer. She underwent surgery to remove a foot of large intestine and some surrounding lymph nodes. One of the lymph nodes tested positive for cancer, which indicated the disease had spread beyond her colon.
Sharon is still cancer-free after undergoing chemotherapy.
According to BBC she also had a double mastectomy because she carries the gene that causes breast cancer.
Her experience with sitting next to other cancer patients in the hospital led her to start the Sharon Osbourne Colon Cancer Program at Cedars-Sinai in 2004. The platform supports cancer patients. “We have people who will pick you up, take you to treatment, take you home, watch your kids, cook for you,” Osbourne explains. “If they’re taken care of, you can focus on getting well.”
