Cancer Type – Breast
Bio – Jane Fonda an American actress, writer, political activist, and former fashion model and fitness guru.
Short Story – Fitness guru faced a cancerous tumour at 72 (2010). She underwent surgery to remove the non-invasive tumour, and was declared cancer free.
Fonda had what was known as situ, cancerous cells that have not spread beyond the breast ducts or lobules.It accounts for about 20 per cent of new breast cancer cases and when treated quickly, the five-year survival rate is said to be 100 per cent.
Fonda remains cancer free. She is best known for selling millions of fitness videos in the 1980’s and 90’s.
She states, “I am lucky,” about her run-in with cancer and credits a routine checkup for the discovery.
Jane Fonda Breast Cancer Update
Jane remains free of breast cancer to date. She will turn 83 this December 2020. When she was diagnosed in 2010 at age 72 with breast cancer, she underwent a lumpectomy. She revealed to People Magazine, “I’ve had a lot of cancer; I was a sun-worshipper. When I have a day off, I frequently go to my skin doctor and have things cut off me by a surgeon.” Fonda told the magazine in an interview.
In 2019 she moved to Washington DC for four months to continue her activism, for radical change for the environment and anti-capitalism, as she put it to get arrested a lot; others who were detained with Jane, Catherine Keener, and Rosanna Arquette during the protests at the Capitol. On Fridays, she plans to do a series of teach-ins and weekly rallies in front of the Capitol.
In 2004 Jane formed The Jane Fonda Foundation; the foundation’s goal is to fund radical anti-capitalist groups and energy groups. She opened it with a million dollars of her own money.
