We love the stories of these celebrities that have taken the fame they have been blessed with in their lives, and used that very public platform to educate and encourage the masses to get screened for cancer often, to avoid some of the heartache they themselves have experienced.
Some of the best stories we think are these:
Mark Ruffalo – Mark had a dream one night about having brain cancer. The dream was so real he immediately went in to be checked only to find a golf ball size tumor behind his left ear. This story has a fantastic ending with this same actor playing to amazing rolls in his professional career. Check out his bio and the rest of the story at Mark Ruffalo cancer.
Jaclyn Smith – Jaclyn Smith starred in the hit series in the 1970’s titled “Charlies Angels” she played one of 3-female private investigators. Co-Starring with Jaclyn were Kate Jackson and Farrah Fawcett. Each of these 3 ladies surprisingly all suffered with cancer later in their lives. Jaclyn and Kate with Breast Cancer, and Farrah with a rare form of anal cancer. These ladies were all champions for the cause of early detection. Jaclyn Smith’s spouse Dr. Brad Allen has also been a great support in the battle and medical confidante.
Olivia Newton-John – This famous star of Grease and fitness in the 70’s was diagnosed with breast cancer at the age of 44. It was a shock to her and the rest of the world because of her healthy lifestyle and endless energy – remember the “let’s get Physical” which millions of people worked out to for years. Olivia beat her cancer and then put her time and talents into running the Olivia Newton-John Cancer Wellness & Research Center in Australia. Unfortunately her cancer has returned as of this week. We wish her well!
Bob Marley – Reggae Legend Bob Marley was diagnosed in 1977 with melanoma following a visit to the doctor to look at a foot injury he received playing soccer. “Don’t worry about a thing, every little thing is gonna be alright”. His laid back style and ultra-cool, image made him a favorite of millions. His final words to his son Ziggy were “Money can’t buy life.” Truer words were never spoken as we each need to focus on health since once its lost is when we truly appreciate the gift given.
