Friends … they come along at every stage of our lives. We develop these friendships. We nurture them. We treasure them. We collect them.
My collection represents who I am, where I have been and where I am going. There is the friend who promised me kindergarten would be fun; the friends who walked the halls of high school with me as we navigated our teenage years; the college friends – a unique group who quickly became my family when I was away from home.
Then … there are the friends I met as a young adult – the women who were with me as I started my journey of “real life.” Next came the friends I met as a mom as my young children eagerly began their own collection of friends.
My dad often refers to an old Italian saying … “Tell me who you go with and I’ll tell you who you are.”
When I look at my collection – those who I go with – I am in awe of their strength, their courage, their ambition, their love of family and their commitment to friendship.
It doesn’t matter where or why you collect friends. Sometimes it is great joy that can bring you together. Other times, it can be at the most difficult time in your lives that you find each other. These women become your tribe. I’ve seen firsthand as a tribe has comes together for a single purpose – a friend … a brave, strong friend battling cancer – and their support is immeasurable and can make all the difference. A tribe in action can be unstoppable.
Is someone in your tribe battling cancer or another significant battle? Together, you are fighting with her. Together, you will cry. Together, you will celebrate the small victories. And together, you are stronger.
However, sometimes, when the days get busy and moments pass quickly, we need to be reminded of our tribe, their challenges and their victories. Today, I challenge you to think about your tribe. Who do you go with? What is happening in their lives? How can you make each other stronger? How can you raise each other up?
Please take five minutes to complete the survey, at the following link, and provide Care Center Gifts with a broader of understanding of how you can and want to show your support to your tribe. We appreciate your time.
